Services before giving birth

Pregnancy care
You can contact us early during pregnancy for a pregnancy check-up or a counseling session. Our primary focus is on individual support and counseling. We clarify your personal questions regarding pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period in addition to the medical check-ups.
We ascertain the baby’s position by abdominal palpating (feeling), ensure whether it is growing appropriately for its age, and, if necessary, check its heartbeat.
Birth preparation courses
Our team offers private antenatal classes in the comfort of your home. The health insurance pays a flat rate of 150 CHF. Our hourly rate is 120 CHF. For a private course, we calculate 2-3 hours.
We explain the birth processes of both mother and child and address possible complications. The role of the partner/accompanying person and the time of the postpartum period are also important to us.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture for birth preparation:
From the 36th week of pregnancy until the birth, one session per week is ideal for achieving optimal results. Through the acupuncture of four to five specific points, the treatment achieves the following results:
Shortened opening phase (more than 2 hours for first-time mothers) due to maturation of the cervix and the neck of the womb.
Good coordination of contractions in the opening phase (efficient, regular contractions)
Positive influence on heartburn, sleep disorders, edemata, pain during pregnancy
The prerequisite for acupuncture treatment in preparation for the birth is a normal pregnancy, free of complications.
Acupuncture for pregnancy and postpartum health problems:
Hyperemesis (severe vomiting during pregnancy)
Numbness in the hands (carpal tunnel syndrome)
Back pain/sciatica
Water retention in hands and legs (edemata)
For the reversal of a breech presentation (BEL) between the 33rd and 35th week of pregnancy using moxibustion
Heartburn
Premature labor
Induction of labor
Regression problems of the uterus
Promotion of milk production
Painful lactogenesis (secretion of milk)
Blocked milk ducts (galactostasis)
Edemata
Digestive problems
Each treatment takes about 45 to 60 minutes. The costs coverage may depend on your supplementary health insurance. Please contact your health insurance provider in advance.
Costs: CHF 100 per hour.
Services after giving birth

Postpartum care
We accompany you in your childbed at home, after an outpatient as well as an inpatient stay. The scope of care for the first child, caesarean section, premature birth or twins is a maximum of 16 home visits until your baby is 8 weeks old.
From the second child there are 10 visits except for the exceptions mentioned above. We monitor the health of mother and child and help with everyday questions about the baby and the new life situation. We work in a network with paediatricians, gynaecologists, osteopaths and also mothers and fathers advice.
Breastfeeding advice
We offer targeted breastfeeding advice for special breastfeeding situations or advise you on questions about employment and breastfeeding, the introduction of supplementary food, weaning or general breastfeeding or breast problems. Your health insurance pays for 3 breastfeeding consultations from the 10th postpartum day until your child is 2 years old.
Postnatal exercise
After childbirth, the body needs rest and recovery, and after a few weeks, gentle exercise to strengthen the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and lower back as well. In the early confinement we will show you specific perception exercises for the pelvic floor. We attach particular importance to determining the type and size of a rectus diastasis. We will show you gentle exercises for this.
If more therapy is needed, we work with specialist agencies.
Low Laser
The low-level laser therapy is a side effect-free regulation therapy, which is used to reactivate the metabolic activity in the body and to stimulate the self-healing powers. Low-level laser light is a light with special properties. It is very energetic and can be visible or invisible. The low-level laser therapy influences the metabolism of the cells and thus promotes the defense against diseases and their healing. With the therapy laser, no heat is generated and neither tissue is removed nor destroyed. The application is therefore completely painless and free of side effects if used correctly. This form of therapy can therefore be used in a wide variety of areas:
Sore nipples
Plugged milk ducts and mastitis
Haemorrhoids
Poorly healing episiotomy or perineal laceration
Poorly healing Caesarean scar
Costs
The therapy lasts about 15 minutes each time and costs CHF 25.00 per application. Low-level laser therapy is not covered by health insurance.
Our philosophy.
Top priority of our work is the well-being and safety of mother and child in childbed.
Our goal.
To accompany and support each family individually, according to the needs and situation.

About me
I was born in Thun in 1971 and spent a happy childhood and school years there. Already as a small child, being a midwife was my dream job, and I dreamed of working in developing countries one day. For this reason, I completed my training and became a certified nurse before starting my training as a midwife.
After three years of professional experience as a nurse in Interlaken and Bern, I trained as a midwife for one and a half years at the University Hospital in Zurich. In autumn 1997, I proudly received my diploma as a midwife.
I then worked as a midwife for four years in various private clinics in Berne. Between the different employments, I enjoyed long trips to faraway countries. At the beginning of 2002, I returned to Zurich, where I worked in the birthing center and postpartum ward of the Bethanien Private Clinic on the Zürichberg until the end of 2009.
In August 2007, I became a mother and enjoyed my break together with my baby boy for seven months.
Returning to a hospital made me quickly realize that combining shift work with caring for a small child was not easy. Hence, at the end of 2009, I decided to go freelance full time. Since February 2010, I have been working as a freelance midwife and breastfeeding counselor in Zurich.

About me
My name is Katrin-Rechsteiner-Bartels, and I was born in 1978 in Northern Hesse, Germany. Together with my younger sister, I have spent my entire childhood there. After graduating from high school, I moved to Wuppertal to train as a midwife, a profession I love with all my heart.
In May of 2001, after passing my midwifery exams, I moved to Zurich. From 2001 to 2005, at the Private Clinic Bethanien, I helped bring many children into this world. In 2004, via an online course, I graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor of Science in midwifery. From 2005 to 2009, I worked at the Zollikerbeg hospital.
Since 2009 I have worked as a freelance midwife with a focus on postnatal care. At the same time, I worked at the Zollikerberg Hospital and Bethanien Hospital on an hourly basis until 2017. In 2007, I married my dear husband Beat, and in 2016 we became the proud parents of a lovely daughter.
